With figurative painting he fought as Junger Wilder against the abstraction prevailing in the 80s. Then Bernd Zimmer, born in 1948 in Planegg near Munich, discovered the power and depth of nature. The autodidact first worked as a bookseller and book designer before he made his way to art after a trip to Mexico. Zimmer's broad, spontaneous brushstrokes, impulsive colors, and large formats characterize him from then on - his theme, too, remained constant: nature, the figurative. Desert, cosmos, sea, sky and forest as concentrates of untouched landscape. Although Bernd Zimmer still does "landscape painting" today, he has reinvented himself time and again over the decades - often on the fringes of abstraction. His work has lost nothing of its vitality and freshness since the beginning of the 1970s until today. Copyright Foto: Mathias Wild
