Cevin Parker

"My art relates to the positive in the negative, because without a negative experience we cannot appreciate what positive experiences are."
Cevin Parker is a Berlin-based artist who uses color as an ever-evolving source of inspiration in his emotionally charged and abstract paintings. Parker is self-taught. Creativity is in his blood as an artist. His art, a constant reflection of the subconscious, usually springs from an impulsive vision or is driven by an unexpected encounter with a muse. His works echo whimsical notions of abstraction as well as traces of American color field artists of the 1950-60s. It is through the composition of harmonious tones and expressive colors that the artist creates a deep connection with his audience. His paintings have been exhibited in Germany, Portugal and Austria and can be found in private collections in Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Canada, Spain, France and Great Britain

When did you start working as an artist?

I have always been involved with art. I found the courage to present it in 2020.

Who and what inspires you?

I find inspiration in myself and my surroundings. But also problems and bad things that happened to me inspire me to go my emotional way.

What materials do you work with and why?

I work on canvas with spray and acrylic, creating two completely different color schemes that end up creating a synergy that invites you to dream. In various cases I also use augmented reality to play the message and the physical artwork even more, and to give the viewer the opportunity to immerse themselves in the artwork with their own action.

Are there colors and shapes that you prefer?

It is mostly pastel colors that attract me, as they are often found in clouds as they rise or set, inviting you to dream.

Do you want to say something with your art?

My art relates to the positive in the negative, because without a negative experience we cannot appreciate what positive experiences are. Every negative experience contains something positive, even if it is only learning.

Why did you start working as an artist?

Art has been a mouthpiece for my self from a very young age.
I had problems talking about emotions and so I came to art. Here I was allowed to learn to put emotions on the canvas and also to talk about them afterwards.

Is there something or someone that influences you?

I am and always have been influenced by people around me, whether it's love or a friendship. But the biggest influence I get from things I can't change and have to accept in order to get ahead in life. Because that is exactly one of the biggest hurdles: Accepting things that you can't change.

Which techniques do you prefer?

As a base, I use spray to bring a softness and a pleasant depth to the artwork. As the top layer, I use acrylic paints mixed by myself, which are set in motion with air, vibrations and similar methods.

Where do you work?

Currently I work in my studio in Berlin and Mallorca.

What is important to you in your work? What are your goals and what would you like to achieve in 5 years?

It is important to me that the viewer engages with the artwork and finalizes it with his/her emotions, thoughts while viewing it.

I would like to continue to inspire people with my art and exhibit at Art Basel.
