Imi Knoebel was born in Dessau. He currently lives and works in Düsseldorf. He completed his studies at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf as a student in the class of Joseph Beuys. 2015, the inauguration of the stained glass windows designed by him took place in the cathedral Notre-Dame of Reims. With Imi Giese and Blinky Palermo, Imi Knoebel developed the formal language of Minimal Art in Germany.
